Summit Series 2 - Coaching 4 Change

WHAT

C4C, a recognized leader in bringing talented and diverse college undergraduates to support school districts, is leading a series of conversations concerning the future of education. This event, the second in a series, will be in an “unconference” format, where participants drive the discussion topics. C4C wants to provide a dynamic space to share and expand the dialogue we know is currently taking place in every individual school and district across the country.

WHO

We invite college and university undergraduates to join us as we generate important ideas to create a pathway forward for making change in our communities.

WHEN

This event will take place by Zoom Webinar on Thursday, August 6th from 7:00 – 8:30pm.

Event Host & Moderator: Dr. Ed Cabellon, Vice President of Enrollment Management Enrollment Management, Curry College

Dr. Ed Cabellon has worked in Higher Education for over 20 years as an executive, senior administrator, and adjunct professor primarily in Massachusetts private and state institutions. He has built and led teams responsible for the successful recruitment, retention, and graduation of diverse college students at two- and four-year institutions through strategic planning, organizational development, and data-informed decision making.

Dr. Cabellon currently serves as vice president of Enrollment Management at Curry College. He is charged with leading Curry’s
enrollment management strategies, inclusive of all recruitment, retention, and student success efforts. Currently, the Admissions, Financial Aid, and Institutional Research departments make up Curry’s Enrollment Management division.

Prior to joining Curry, Dr. Cabellon served as vice president for Student Services and Enrollment Management at Bristol Community
College and director of Administration in Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Bridgewater State University. Dr. Cabellon
has also worked administratively at Tufts University, Central Connecticut State University, and the University of New Hampshire and has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at Bridgewater State University and online at Caldwell University.

Ed is also an avid runner, completing eighteen half marathons and three marathons, including the 2016 Marine Corps Marathon, and the 2017 and 2018 Boston Marathons. He also serves his community by being a youth soccer coach, actively fundraising for various causes, and serving on three different Boards of Directors, including Coaching For Change.

Ed is a proud first-generation, Filipino-American college graduate and higher education professional.

Professional.

Caitlin Clarkson Pereira is a proud mom, activist, advocate, speaker, and writer from Fairfield, Connecticut. She focuses most of her work on access to education, gender equality, gun violence prevention and the rights of communities often silenced. Never having run for office before, she was the endorsed democratic candidate for state representative in Connecticut’s 132nd District during the 2018 election. During this time, she garnered national media attention due to her work at John F Kennedy International Airport during the travel ban and a fight with the state of CT over a discriminatory campaign law, which is still underway.

Previous to her mission to change the world, Caitlin was on a mission to change the lives of college students. She spent a dozen years in residence life, student activities, orientation, academic advising, student retention, and ensuring freshman success. She’s worked at ECSU, WCSU, SCSU, and University of New Haven. Caitlin graduated from the Student Development in Higher Education Masters program at CCSU after completing her thesis about lesbian, gay, and bisexual students’ ability to persist after coming out in college.

Caitlin lives by her personal mantra of “comfort zones are overrated,” and what inspires her is to inspire those around her.

Rob Delaleu, Director of Multicultural Affairs at Bristol Community College

Panelist/Room Facilitator: Rob Delaleu, Director of Multicultural Affairs at Bristol Community College

Rob has worked at Bristol for more than 11 years, first as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach since 2008 as well as the Acting Director of the Multicultural Student Center since 2014, where he took over as Director in 2019. He has been an outstanding member of the college community, deeply impacting students and staff alike, but especially underrepresented students and his basketball players. He led the Men’s Basketball program to seven NJCAA New England Final Fours, three MCCAC championships, and three Region championship games. He also recruited and developed five National All-Americans, eighteen All-Region players, one National All-Star game select, and helped to graduate and transfer 68% of active roster student-athletes.

Kiana Pierre-Louis, Senior Lecturer, Law and Taxation, Bentley University

Kiana Pierre-Louis is a Law Lecturer and GB110 Course Coordinator at Bentley University in the Law, Taxation, and Financial Planning Department. She began teaching at Bentley in 2008 as an adjunct Professor and became a Lecturer in 2015. She teaches a four course undergraduate and graduate load each semester which includes classes like, The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business, Law Ethics and Social Responsibility, Marketing Law, Race and the Law and Social Justice Law an embedded travel course. In addition to being a Professor at Bentley University, Kiana is also an alumnus of Bentley University having graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Communications and a minor in English in 1999. She received a Juris Doctorate, from Suffolk University Law Schoolin 2002 and passed the bar that same year.

After graduating from law school Kiana worked for 2 small law firms practicing civil litigation, corporate law and criminal defense. In 2004, Kiana became Partner/Owner for Perkins & Baskin, P.C., where she practiced Real Estate law, corporate law and civil litigation. Realizing she had a passion for Real Estate, Kiana and her business partner subsequently started Perkins & Baskin Realty in 2006, a real estate company, where they were real estate brokers helping buyers and sellers with the purchase and sale of their homes. In 2009, Kiana decided to close both firms and focus on teaching and family.

Kiana also sits on the Board of Directors for KodeConnect, Inc.a non-profit organization helping marginalized youth to get access to STEM classes for little to no cost.
